External ventricular drains (EVDs) are commonly used and considered best standard of practice in the critical care environment for treating several neurological conditions that alter intracranial pressure (ICP). The use of EVDs is essential and while universally used in intensive care units, there is not an established evidence-based best standard of care for managing them.
