A Very Military May
This past month was “military month” in terms of the meetings we attended:
SOMA 2024
Raleigh, NC || May 13-17, 2024
The Special Operations Medical Association (SOMA) is the only medical association in the world that brings together the unique blend of pre-hospital, tactical, wilderness, austere, disaster, and deployed medicine. We work with several members of the Special Ops Forces, and attending this meeting is always fun. We presented a poster of our work (shown below) with Dr. Tyler Davis from the Air Force and hopefully one of our future collaborators.

The meeting has labs you can attend to learn new skills. I went to one to learn how to insert an emergency airway through the neck called a cricothyroidotomy.
Me as a guinea pig as my lab partner practices the insertion (through a fake neck).
We ran into our friends from NIRSense, Casey Boutwell and Dan Rodenhaver, always a fun group.
MTEC 2024
Baltimore, MD || May 22-23, 2024
The Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC) is an organization that acts as a broker for project funding from the Department of Defense. MTEC funds our company’s project to bring multimodal monitoring and AI to the battlefield to optimize management of TBI victims. The meeting is scientific in nature, and we presented a poster of our work. It is also a great networking opportunity, and we spent times during the conference and two evenings with some great food and drinks doing just that.
