ANIM
Berlin, Germany || January 19-21, 2023

We often go to ANIM, an annual meeting held in Germany. Most of it is in German, some in English. But many of the European multimodal monitoring glitterati are there. And, of course, there is the food, beer, and scenery. It was in Berlin this year, a great city for history, multi-culture, and technology. We missed it this year, but our foreign correspondent, Tobias Hamann, caught Mary Kay Bader talking about pupillometry.

INBBC 2023: International Newborn Brain Conference

The 14th International Newborn Brain Conference (INBBC) was held February 8-11 in Clearwater, Florida. This is a wonderful meeting that is very international in scope. It always has a congenial mix of academics, clinicians, and industry.

The International Newborn Brain Conference provides a state-of-the-art forum for presentation and discussion of current research and clinical practice in newborn brain care, including diagnosis, monitoring and management strategies to optimize neurodevelopmental outcome. It explores the means to understand, monitor, protect and treat the newborn brain. The INBBC provides continuing medical education to multidisciplinary professionals working to improve the neurological and developmental health outcomes of premature and high-risk newborns.

Also check out the Newborn Brain Society. You should be a member of that group if you are interested in neonatal brain monitoring.

TRACK-TBI TED Conference
Bethesda, MD || January 31-Februrary 1, 2023

The TED (TBI Endpoints Development) Initiative had its final meeting in Bethesda, MD on the NIH campus January 31 – February 1, 2023. The TED Initiative spun off of the TRACK-TBI trial with the purpose of defining more accurate endpoints to use in assessing the outcome of TBI patients. Both TRACK-TBI and CENTER-TBI were multicenter observational trials that helped define traumatic brain injury. The TED Initiative greatly improved the endpoints by which therapies or management techniques can be compared. Geoff Manley announced that, after decades of failed trials, we are now ready to re-start large scale trials of TBI armed with the results of TRACK-TBI, CENTER-TBI, and TED.
